Jonathan Hugstad

I've spent twenty years making films: documentary, narrative, and development.

For the past four years I've been lead editor and creative director of Coming Home, a documentary series about people whose near-death experiences changed how they live. I helped build its format and production standards from the first film, and shot most of the early episodes as well. Before that I directed two feature documentaries for PBS's Roadtrip Nation, one of which won a regional Emmy in 2018.

I care most about building stories with clarity and emotional weight, using pacing, carefully placed music and patiently chosen images to make films people stay with to the end.
